Concept Articulation
For my parti model I was large focused on following the 9 square grid of the precedent house; the room pods were the negative space of the original model. When drawing the first scheme I wanted to keep the main components of the model, so the 4 individual blocks are used to create a square that continues to have the precedents’ grid and main center gathering space. For the second scheme I wanted to play with the idea of changing the axis of the scheme, the Miller House is a very flat site and so is the house, so I wanted to experiment with giving the building a height change. I kept the 9 square grid the house followed but I still wanted to expand the constraints of the adding height so for the third scheme I wanted to add more height and changed from the 9 square grid to a spiral that kept the main central public space. For my final model I kept with my first scheme, I found the height additions to mess with the possible circulation and massing of the buildings. The first scheme still kept the simplistic bits of the Miller House but left room for expansion on the key ideas. I additionally loved the fact that the Miller House was highly focused on bringing the outdoors into the indoors, and I liked to incorporate that by the further you go inside the house you actually go outdoors.
